Mountain Bike Instructors Award Scheme
The Level 3 qualification is aimed at experienced mountain bike leaders, who wish to extend their remit to include remote terrain and trails of severe technical difficulty. It focuses on group management in technical terrain, navigation in challenging/intereresting conditions with few navigational features and incident management in remote environments.
This is the progression course from the level 1 and 2, It covers similar material to the previous courses but the terrain will be technical and more interesting
The terrain covered can be above 600 meters and typically involves long descents, large drop offs and rock steps or a combination of technical manoeuvres one after another.
It could include up to 20 miles of riding. 3000ft of climb with rocks/drops etc
Each candidate will give approximately an hours coaching to the group (minimum) on the terrain found on the ride
The course duration is dependant on numbers.
with 4 people booked onto the course it is a one day course and will take place on the Saturday
with more than 4 it’s a 2 day course and takes both saturday and Sunday
This is to allow each candidate the opportunity to clearly demonstrate their leadership/group management/mountain safety/coaching skills
The course which will take place in the Peak District area. with the meeting point being close to Ladbower Reservoir

At the end of the weekend candidates will receive a personal course debrief and hopefully certification to show they are now newly qualified to MIAS level 3.

Benefits and History
Q MIAS level 2 instructor is awarded a QCF level 2, this is equivalent to a GCSE and a MIAS level 3 instructor is awarded a QCF level 3, which is equivalent to an “A” level. The MIAS award is also operated under the European Qualifications Framework and is equivalent to e level 4 in this award, which means it is recognised in France as a leaders award for mountain biking. This can be of use if your considering working in the Alps.

A deposit of £50 can hold your place but is non refundable. Balance to be paid 14 days prior to the course.

ALL candidates must have a safe working bicycle suitable for the terrain, a helmet, and clothing suitable for the weather.
Please note there will be a lunch break but lunch is NOT provided.
